Collaborative Development in Point-Saint-Charles
Pointe-Saint-Charles’s development in the Sud-Ouest borough of Montreal was analyzed and a masterplan was devised with the aim of finding ways to densify and create new residential units within the 10 year and 30 year time-frames. This mandate translated into a vision for the study area that is characterized by a collaborative model of growth in which high-density, residential development is balanced with the interests of residents and community organizations. The area would be expanded to new developable land and park space and would posses improved regional and local connections with a new light rail train station and an expansion of the existing road network. Finally, the area has achieved financial and cultural self-determination through a policy framework that formalizes local interest and recaptures value created from new development to micro-finance and support projects along the four main commercial arteries. The project was a collaboration with Jean Chiasson, Simon Mammone and Eric Pitre.
